there and moved to the Rensselaer area in 1923 He was married in 1926 to Curtis Holbrook who survives Also surviving are three daughters Mrs Robert (Katherine) Lund of Hammond Mrs Bill (Thelma) 1 Manns of Rensselaer and Mrs orest (Irene) Manns of Royal Center 1 William A Allen IDAVILLE Retired RCA employee William A Allen 62 died at 11 :55 pm Saturday in St Elizabeth Hospital Lafayette where he had been a patient one week Bom in Taylor County Ky he had lived in the Idaville community the past 40 years In 1939 he was married to Mary Constant who survives Mr Allen was employed at RCA 32 years retiring a year ago when he became ill Surviving with the widow are two daughters Mrs Barbara Robinson of Burnettsville and Mrs Shirley Clear of Camden a son Jerry Allen of orest Ill his father Roy Allen of Campbellsville Ky four brothers Lewis Thomas and Roy Allen all of Campbellsville and Paul Allen of Illinois and four sisters Mrs Mary Kathryn Garnett and Miss Elsie Allen both of Campbellsville Mrs Opal Warren of Aurora Ill and Mrs Myrtle Druen of Louisville Ky Jerry Darnell CHALMERS ormer Chalmers resident Jerry Darnell 52 died Wednesday morning in St Joseph Hospital at South Bend A native of Lafayette he was educated at Chalmers and after serving in the Navy moved to the South Bend Mishawaka area Mr Darnell was employed nearly 20 years at St Joseph Hospital as maintenance superintendent His widow Phyllis survives along with a daugh ter Joyce Nagy of Mishawaka two sons Joe and Jeff Darnell both of South Bend his mother Mrs Vera Darnell of Monon two brothers Wilbur Darnell of Lafayette and Jack Darnell of Shreveport La and one sister Mrs Beverly Heater of South Bend Services were held riday at South Bend Carl Onken RANCESVILLE Carl Onken 82 a life resident of rancesville died at 8:20 am Sunday in Pulaski Memorial Hospital He had been in failing health five years Bom in Pulaski County he was a veteran of World I Mr Onken had a cream route in this area for many years before his retirement He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and a 50 year member of American Legion Post of rancesville He was married in 1925 at Crown Point and his widow Elizabeth survives Also surviving are one daughter Mrs Jane Boehning of Kansas City Kan two brothers' Ed ward and Walter Onken both of rancesville and three sisters Mrs Lena Coffel and Mrs Edna Dobbins both of rancesville and Mrs Hilda Kur wick of Monon Russell Price RANKORT Retired director of Price Oil Co Russell Price 85 of 804 Burlington Ave died at 10 pm Sunday in Parkwood Health Care Center Le banon He had been ill three years A native of Clinton County he was married in 1915 to Lenora Stinson who died in 1956 He was later married in 1958 to em Parks and she died in 1969 Mr Price lived most of his life in rankfort and in 1976 retired as distributor for Pure and Union Oil Co He was later director of Price Oil Co Inc Mr Price was a member of irst Christian Church and for over 50 years a member of Jefferson Vespa Lodge 136 where he was past master Surviving are a son DL Price of rank fort a daughter Mrs Bernice Martz of Lebanon and two stepdaughters Roy Snoeberger DELPHI Retired farmer Roy Snoeberger 91 of Rt 2 Delphi died at 8 pm Sunday in Delphi Nursing Home He had been in failing health six months Bom in Carroll County he was a life resident of this area In 1909 he was married at Rockfield to Effie Kerlin who died in 1955 He was then married in 1961 to Alice Wysong abRockfield and she died in 1976 Mr Snoeberger was a member of Rockfield Pres byterian Church Surviving are a son John Snoeberger of Rt 2 Delphi two daughters Mrs Margaret lora of Rpckfield and Mrs Lois rye of Logansport and a brother Paul A Snoeberger of Rt 2 Star City Mrs Minnie Cambridge RANKORT Mrs Minnie Elizabeth Cam bridge 81 of 52 Boone St died at 7:45 pm Sunday in Clinton County Hospital She had been in ill health five days A native of Russellville she was a resident of rankfort the past 65 years In 1916 she was married to Garrett John Cam bridge who died in 1961 Mrs Cambridge was a member of irst Baptist Church Services Sunday School Class and Mothers of World War II Surviving are four sons Lawrence and Lester Cambridge both of rankfort Marvin Cambridge of Northfolk Va and Ivan Cambridge of Tucson Ariz two daughters Mrs Tom (Helen Mae) Griffin of rankfort and Mrs Lois Dorothea Louise David son of Severna Park Md one sister Mrs Margaret Hill of Homestead la and one brother Walter Donahew of Myers la Ralph Ashley RANKORT Ralph Ashley 80 a retired employee of Nickle Plate Railroad died at 11:57 pm Sunday in St Elizabeth Hospital Lafayette He had been in ill health three weeks A native of Clinton County he resided at 1401 Washington St In 1919 he was married to Irene Meikel who survives Mr Ashley was a veteran of World War I and a member of Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Surviving with the widow are two daughters Mrs James Miller of Colfax and honors jMeiiv A 5 Miss Mabie Dodge MONTICELLO Miss Mabie Dodge 87 a former reporter for the Herald Journal of Monticello died at 3:30 pm Sunday in Delphi Nursing Home Bom at Monticello she resided here until moving to the Delphi Nursing Home seven years ago She was a graduate of Monticello High School Miss Dodge served as a deputy in the White County auditors recorders county agent and welfare offices and was a reporter for the Herald Journal 12 years before retiring She was a member of the Business and Profes sional Womens Club and Union Township Home Economics Club Surviving are two brothers Virgil Dodge of Grants Pass Ore and Charles Dodge of Monticello Mrs Leland McCorkle WEST POINT Mrs Verna McCorkle 79 of Rt I West Point died today in Indiana University Medical Center Indianapolis Mrs Ivah Shoaf KENTLAND Mrs Ivah Shoaf 93 a former Kentland resident died early today in Miller Merry Manor Nursing Home Peru Two Journal and Courier staff members were honored for their writing and photographic skills over the weekend Outdoor columnist Jack Alkire received a $500 award from the Chicago Chapter of Safari Club International Staff Photographer Paul Rakestraw received second place in the portraits and personality category in the Indiana News Photographers 21st annual contest entry won an annual contest sponsored by th? Chicago chapter of SCI for Midwestern outdoor writers to encourage wildlife conservation writing particularly ar ticles showing the contribution of hunters to wildlife work Mi' winning entry was a column he wrote in the fall of 1978 about an appearance he made before a Purdue University philosophy class to 'explain why men hunt The award was presented at the Chicago annual meeting Saturday at the McGraw Wildlife ounda tion headquarters in Elgin Ill Rakestraw will receive a plaque for his second place award in the photo contest Entitled the photo was of Archie and Esther Harrison spent 60 years together dozing at the Indiana Home outside West Lafayette It was part of a photo package which ran Christmas Day 1979 Al Petersime of the Jasper Herald won first place in the category with his entry Rax has a beef with 2 robbers Lafayette Police are continuing their investigation of the Sunday morning armed robbery of the manager of Rax 1 Roast Beef Restaurant 101 Sagamore Pa rkway The manager Cole Richeson 21 Rt 1 Battle Ground told police that two white males between 20 and 30 years old entered the store around 1 am The men brandishing blue steel pistols tied Richeson with gray duct tape and escaped with $1901 in receipts They also took a $200 calculator police said Richeson was unable to give police a description of the car He managed to get free and call police This was the second holdup of a local fast food restau rant in the past two weeks wo juveniles held up a clerk at the Restaurant on Sagamore Parkway in West Lafayette a week ago No dollar loss in that holdup
