JCONLINE.COM SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2020 7B LAFAYETTE John E. of Lafayette passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020 at The Springs. He was born March 29,1933 in Lafayette, to the late Edward John Shaw and Edith (Thelen) Shaw. After graduating from Jeff High School, he joined the Army and later worked for the local fire department as the Assistant Fire Chief. John married Elizabeth A.

Riley on February 8, 1958. He enjoyed being a member of the Elks where he was an avid golfer. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence Church. Surviving are his son, Marc A.

Shaw of Lafayette, and daughter Tara (Billy) Hooper of Lafayette. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Cliff) Metcher of Brevard, NC and grandchild Amy Powell of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and wife Elizabeth A. Shaw. Graveside service will be held 10am Wednesday, March 11,2020 at St.

She was born on March 29, 1948 in Lafayette to the late Joseph and Bar- bara (Booher) Warren.

Nancy graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in the class of 1966. She worked for Purdue University in various administrative roles for 25 years. Nancy was a huge baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Olympics, especially figure skating. Christmas morning for her came every spring on opening day for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Surviving are her son, Andrew Gruver of La- fayette; her sister, Cindy Warren of Lafayette; her niece, Heather Faulkner of Lafayette; her great niece, Madison Faulkner of Lafayette; and her good friend, Deb Darrow of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy Reamer. A Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m.

Lowery, 62, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:15 pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. She was born Sep- tember 25, 1957, in Ka- lamazoo, MI, to the late John and Ruriko (Ya- masaki) Lowery. Tracy worked as a Senior Title Officer for Stallard and Schuh Title Company for several years. Tracy enjoyed her family and the companionship of her cats. Surviving is her son, Damien (Heather) Lowery of Lafayette, three brothers, Mike Lowery of Lafayette, George (Sandy) Lowery of Battle Ground, and Claude (Carol) Lowery of Indianapolis, two Granddaughters, Ker- styn and Leila Lowery and a great grandson, Kaiden Williams.

Lowery LAFAYETTE Betty Windle Askren, age 94, of Lafayette, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2020 after a short battle with cancer.

Betty Ann, (Janie), was born January 2, 1926 at Christian Hospital, In- dianapolis. The third of ten children born to Viviane Earl and Alice (Reed) Windle, she graduated from Warren Cen- tral High School. She married Calvin N. Askren in 1961 in Indi- anapolis and he survives. Betty worked in sales at Lazarus Department Store earning top sales person for a number of years.

She attended Faith Baptist Church in La- fayette for many years. Her great joy in life was singing, gracing many over the years with her vivacious rendition of Betty wanna Be Loved by As a member of two choral groups, she brought much joy to others. She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Cal- vin N. Askren, their son Thomas A.

Rudin, 102, passed away peacefully at the home for her daughter and son- in-law on March 6, 2020. She was born on April 14, 1917 to Conrad Wolf and Minnie (Macon) Wolf in Vermillion County, IL. Madora graduated from Klondike High School, West Lafayette, IN in 1936. Klondike is where Ma- dora met the love of her life Gaylord Rudin. They were married March 21, 1937, and shared 54 years of marriage together before he passed away in 1991.

Mardora worked at the Duncan Meter Co in Lafayette, IN, for 18 years. Around 1970 Madora and Gaylord moved to Mesa, Arizona where they managed a mobile home park for 10 years durning the time they lived in Arizona. Madora moved back to Lafayette, IN 1992 to be close to family. She enjoyed the summer time and warm weather when she could be outside and plant flowers and feed and watch the birds. All of her life Ma- dora liked to work in her flower gardens, planting all kinds of perennials and annuals.

She enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends. She spent many hours knitting and crocheting dollies, afghans, and Christmas stockings for her family. She also enjoyed sewing and making doll clothes for her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. IN her younger years she was a hunter of antelope, pheasants and mushrooms and would go fishing where ever there might be fish to be caught. She had many fond memories of her travels through the western and southern United States.

Survivors include her daughter Paula Kerkhove (Bob) of West Lafayette; grandchildren Steve Kerkhove (Debra) of West Lafayette, Trudi Souligne (Jim) of Fowler, IN, great grandchildren, Shane Kerkhove (Chrissy) of West Lafayette, Heather Lohmeyer (Jayson) of West Lafayette, Amanda Taylor (Jonathan) of West Lafayette, Ryan Souligne (Lindsey) of Lafayette, Cory Souligne (Taylor) of West Lafayette, Kendra Underwood (Calvin) of Delphi, IN; great-great grandchildren, Nicole and Alex Kerkhove, Jaylie and Jaycob Lohmeyer, McKinley and Zachary Taylor, Madilyn and Meredith Souligne, and Haper Underwood. Madora was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and two sisters. She loved to talk about her childhood and the fond mem- ories she shared with her family. Madora was a member of the Christian Church in West Lafayette. Visitation will be held from 10am 11am Thursday March 12, 2020 at Hippensteel Funeral Home.

He was born April 15, 1936 in Evans- ville, to the late Henry and Anna Marie Weber Van Meter. Gerry was a 1954 grad- uate of Memorial High School.

He retired from the Indiana State Police and later became Director of Security for the Hoosier Lottery. Gerry is survived by his wife, Judy, of 32 years; daughters, Jane Mark of Elkhart, IN, and Jill (Greg) Robinson, of Corydon, IN; daughter-in-law, Lori Van Meter of Attica, IN; son, Scott (Christina) Oliver of Merrillville, IN; grandchildren, Spencer and Caroline Mark, Drew and Zachery Van Meter, Grant and James Robinson, and Chloe and Nelson Oliver; sisters, Jean Cox, Mary Madden, and Lois Van Meter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Andy Van Meter, and brothers Jack and Bob Van Meter. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
